Why assisted reset triggers need a heavier buffer

A standard semi-auto trigger resets when you release trigger pressure. An assisted reset trigger such as the Partisan Disruptor or the AS Designs ARC-Fire V2 uses the rearward travel of the bolt carrier group to reset the trigger after every shot, so the carrier’s speed on the return stroke decides whether the trigger works reliably. If the buffer is too light, the carrier comes back too fast, the trigger can’t finish its reset, and you get short-stroking or failures to reset. The fix is more buffer weight: H2 minimum, H3 recommended. This system gets you there precisely and lets you fine-tune from there.

Weight settings

Where to start

• Assisted reset trigger on a carbine-length build (16″ or shorter): start at 5 or 6 weights (H2.5–H3) and tune from there.
• Pistol-length or suppressed build: use all 7.
• Super Safety: start at 6 weights.

Builder notes

1. Start heavy and tune down. With a new assisted reset trigger, start with all 7 weights and run 50 rounds. If cycling feels sluggish or the bolt doesn’t fully return, remove one weight and repeat. Most builds settle at 5 or 6 weights.
2. Gas system matters. Overgassed rifles can run lighter and undergassed rifles need more weight. The adjustable system compensates for both without swapping buffers.
3. Suppressor users start at 7. A suppressor raises back pressure and bolt velocity. Start at full weight and tune from there.
4. Super Safety users start at 6. The Super Safety’s cam timing depends on consistent bolt carrier dwell time.
5. Check your bolt carrier. Drop-in assisted reset triggers like the Partisan Disruptor also need an M16-profile bolt carrier group. The Partisan Disruptor bundle includes one.
